This development of 41 apartments and townhouses was part of Sustainable Energy Ireland’s “House of Tomorrow” scheme, and was a flagship sustainable project for the local authority and the Department of the Environment.
To acheive a higher building energy rating, the design uses south-facing glazing, sustainable materials, solar panels, rainwater harvesting, micro-CHP units, underfloor heating and heat recovery systems.
The apartments, which achieved an ‘A’ Building Energy Rating, are the first local authority units to achieve this rating. SEAI supported the development as a ‘demonstration project to highlight the energy savings potential of the best in sustainable energy principles and technologies.’
The project will be monitored for three years to assist in understanding energy usage and potential savings. The project was undertaken in conjunction with Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s Architects Department.
