House in Wexford

A simple, two storey structure based on the traditional farmhouse.

Two long, narrow blocks step along the contours of the rural site. The massive external masonry walls enclose small, traditionally proportioned openings.

A modern, glass atrium connects the two blocks, with the entrance at one end and a sunroom at the other. The master bedroom and living rooms are orientated around the views to the south.

The central atrium with its considerable solar gain means that the heating costs for the house are especially low.

The sunroom faces west to catch the evening sun, the atrium runs the length of the central ridge.
