Winning entry in a design competition for new social housing in Ballymun. The project was exhibited at the National Housing Conference and the RIAI’s “New Housing Strong Communities” travelling exhibition. The objective of the scheme was to create a secure, quality living environment. The larger three- and four-storey dwellings overlook the new park, creating an appropriately scaled enclosure to the public spaces. The smaller one-and two-storey dwellings are arranged around interior courtyards.
This variation helps to create separate neighbourhoods and thus privacy and ownership of space. This was intended to help create a sense of community seen vital to the success of the development.
